Triple D Painting, Inc. – A Family-Style Business
In business since 1971, Triple D Painting has been a local family company from the start. The company’s founders, Gordon and Nancy Borges, named it after their three daughters, each of whom has names starting with the letter D. When the family decided to retire in 2006, Nicholas and Jodie Mendes took over.
Now, the husband-and-wife team serves not only as owners, but also as Triple D president and vice president, respectively. Keeping the family theme running, the couple’s two sons work for the company as well. And even though the remaining employees are not blood-related, they are considered family, too. The close-knit group carries over the family-style atmosphere to their work.
“We give personal attention to all our clients. Nicholas goes out to do all the estimates, and customers can contact him directly,” Jodie says.
That personalized attention comes with every project, no matter the size. Perhaps that’s what sets Triple D apart from its competitors.
“It’s more of a connection when someone who owns the company is there. It shows our customers that we are taking an extra step and that they are important to us,” Nicholas says.
The attention and care has been there from the start, and it shows. Officially EPA-certified as lead safe, Triple D is also the proud recipient of an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau for its 35-year history with no consumer complaints.
To better serve their clientele, Nicholas, who was a mason for 21 years before Triple D, realized the importance of having masonry as part of the company, as well as waterproofing. So, shortly after taking over, Triple D added masonry and waterproofing licenses to their repertoire.
“A lot of times, when we paint a building, like a high-rise, they’ll have issues with concrete repair and water intrusion,” Nicholas says. “A lot of painting companies don’t have those licenses, but for us, it’s a benefit because we can do both of those things.”
Customers may not realize that Triple D does much more than paint. “Our masonry is really convenient for commercial and residential,” Nicholas says. “We can lay concrete for driveways and slabs, decorative concrete, lay tile, rock veneer, and many more. We can also do imperial plaster inside and stucco on the outside.”
Looking ahead, Triple D is hoping to grow, but is approaching growth cautiously. “We want to keep that personalized attention with each customer. We want to stay humble, but we are also looking forward to expanding to keep our team working,” Nicholas says. “Adding residential jobs along with our commercial projects will help to give more work to our employees. Besides the company prospering, we want our employees to prosper, too. And for our customers, no matter what, we will always offer personalized customer service.”
And in the end, the sense of care instilled throughout every aspect of the company is a win-win-win — for the owners, employees and, especially, the customers.
